Permanent Residents of Canada are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship application regardless of age. So to become eligible to become a Canadian citizen, individuals must:

One must hold a perpetual residence visa

• PR

• Must be in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years

  • Must be physically residing in Canada for at least 1095 days during the five years right before the date of the application.

• Have filed taxes, if needed

  • Taxes must be filed for 3 years during the 5 years right before the date of the application.

• Show how well they know Canada

  • Individuals who are between the ages of 18 to 54 on the day the application is signed must take a citizenship test. The test is about Canada’s history, geography, economy, government, laws, and symbols.
    

• Prove their language skills

  • Individuals between the ages 18 to 54 on the day the application is signed must show that they can speak and listen at a specific level in one of the official languages (English or French).
    

  • To become a citizen, individuals must meet (CLB) Level 4.

It is essential to note that some of the eligibility requirements are different for minors in order to apply for Canadian citizenship application (under the age of 18).
