frequently asked questions

What is the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)?

A: The AINP is a Canadian immigration program that allows the government of Alberta to nominate individuals for immigration to Canada based on the province’s economic and labour market needs.

Who is eligible to apply for AINP?

A: To be eligible to apply for AINP, individuals must meet criteria such as having a valid job offer in Alberta, education and work experience, and language proficiency.

How do I apply for AINP?

A: To apply for AINP, you must first submit an online expression of interest (EOI) profile and meet the eligibility criteria for one of the AINP streams. If selected, you will then be invited to submit a formal application for nomination.

How long does the AINP process take?

A: The processing time for AINP varies based on a number of factors, such as the volume of applications received and the completeness of the application. On average, it can take anywhere from several months to a year for the AINP process to be completed.

Does having a nomination from AINP guarantee permanent residency in Canada?

A: No, having a nomination from AINP does not guarantee permanent residency in Canada. A successful AINP nomination will result in a nomination certificate, which must then be submitted with a permanent residency application to the federal government of Canada. The final decision on permanent residency will be made by immigration officers based on factors such as admissibility, health, and security.

What is Express Entry and how does it work?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for immigration to Canada. It allows skilled workers to apply for permanent residency based on their qualifications, work experience, and language ability.

Who is eligible to apply through Express Entry?

Express Entry is open to skilled workers who have experience in certain eligible occupations and meet the language, education, and work experience requirements.

How long does the Express Entry process take?

The processing time for Express Entry applications varies, but on average it takes 6 to 12 months for a decision to be made.

How does Express Entry determine which applicants are selected?

Applicants are ranked based on a comprehensive ranking system (CRS) that takes into account factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant criteria. The highest-ranked applicants are then invited to apply for permanent residency.

What are the requirements for language proficiency for Express Entry?

Applicants must take a language test, such as the IELTS or CELPIP, to demonstrate their proficiency in English or French. A minimum score is required in each language component (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in order to be eligible for Express Entry.
