Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA)
A Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) is a protection process available to certain individuals facing removal from Canada. Through a PRRA application, eligible applicants may have an opportunity to present evidence showing that they would face persecution, torture, danger to life, or a risk of cruel and unusual treatment or punishment if returned to their country of nationality or habitual residence. PRRA is not available to everyone and is usually offered only after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) issues a notice confirming eligibility. The process is designed to ensure that Canada's international and domestic protection obligations are considered before a person is removed from the country. The FAQs below explain PRRA eligibility, processing times, supporting documents, removal risks, PRRA refusals, and available legal options after a PRRA decision.
