What is an ETA?
An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is an entry requirement for visa exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. It's electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
Most travelers need only to complete a simple online application that takes minutes to fill out. The ETA allows multiple entries to Canada for stays of up to six months at a time for tourism, business, or transit purposes.
Who Needs an ETA?
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an ETA to fly to or transit through Canada. This includes citizens of countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, and many others. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and travelers entering by land or sea do not need an ETA.
