What is Status Restoration?
Status restoration is the process of regaining your legal status in Canada after it has expired. If your visitor record, study permit, or work permit has expired and you haven't left Canada or applied for renewal before expiry, you have fallen out of status and must apply for restoration.
You have 90 days from the day your status expired to apply for restoration. After this period, you must leave Canada and apply for a new permit from outside the country. Restoration allows you to regain legal status and continue your stay in Canada.
Requirements for Status Restoration
To be eligible for status restoration, you must apply within 90 days of losing status, continue to meet the requirements of your original status, and pay the restoration fee in addition to the fee for your new permit. You must also explain why you failed to extend your status before it expired.
