International Mobility Program

Canada’s labor market has been under tremendous strain due to various reasons such as a declining birth rate, a booming economy, and younger retirement age, leaving many important jobs in Canada vacant. Canada has therefore sought to fill these positions with foreign workers, offering both permanent and temporary employment opportunities at all skill levels.

The International Mobility Program (IMP) is designed to help Canadian employers hire international workers temporarily without having to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) first.

Just what is a “Low-Margin Item Account”?

An LMIA certifies that a Canadian company has made a good faith effort to fill a position with a Canadian worker and has been unsuccessful.

The IMP encompasses a wide variety of work permit lines and programmes, some of which may qualify you for permanent citizenship through province or government economic programmes like the Canadian Experience Class, which is part of the Express Entry system.

Just what is this “International Movement Program” (IMP) that everyone keeps talking about?

Employers in Canada can recruit foreign nationals without obtaining an LMIA through the IMP if the job is in the national interest. The Interim Foreign Worker Program, which needs an LMIA and is reliant on the labour market, is simplified and processed much more quickly as a result of this change.

Employment Passes Are Now Available Through IMP Streams

As was previously stated, an LMIA is not required for IMP-related job initiatives. In order to work in Canada, applicants need only possess an active work visa. The Foreign Migration Initiative encompasses the following initiatives:

What Kind of People Should Apply?

Students who have completed their studies at a Canadian institution of higher learning are eligible to apply for the Post-Graduate Employment Permit Program (DLI)

Young adults (18–35) who are interested in visiting and working in Canada can take advantage of reciprocal youth exchange programmes like International Experience Canada (IEC).

Transferring employees to the Canadian office of their present employer can take advantage of the company’s Intra-Company Move Program.

For those who are in the process of becoming Canadian permanent residents but who want to work while they are here temporarily, there is the Bridging Open Work Permit.

Cases where participants in initiatives like Mobilité Francophone can make important contributions to Canada’s social and cultural life. Successes in the past, as well as feedback and referrals from professionals in the pertinent area, will be taken into consideration.

Instructions for submitting an application via the IMP.

Your Canadian workplace is the first step, just as they are in the TFWP.

Phase 1: The Employment Offer

In order to make a formal employment offer to you in Canada, your future boss will need to use the portal for employers.

In order to employ foreign nationals through the International Movement Program, businesses must satisfy the following criteria:

Provide evidence that the position or employee qualifies for an exemption from the LMIA, pay the $230 compliance charge, and post an employment opening on the IMP Business Gateway (if required).

If you have a valid work visa that is still available, your company can skip submitting an employment offer and paying the compliance charge.

Work Pass Application #2: Next Move

When you’ve finished, you can file for your short-term international employment visa. Please note that your offer of employment number will be required to finish your registration. If you meet Canada’s employment eligibility requirements, a border services official will issue you either a letter of reference and a work permit, or a fresh work permit (if you live in Canada or apply when you enter Canada).

Keep in Mind

Keep in mind that even with a work visa, you still won’t be allowed into Canada. If you’re coming from another country, you’ll need to apply for and receive a Visitor’s Visa (Travel Visa) or Electronic Travel Permit (eTa).

The submission of a medical document attesting to your excellent health may also be required. Your new life in Canada can begin once you have obtained your work authorization and transit ticket.
