Study Permit for Visa Partners

There are employment permits available if you want to join your companion in Canada while they are attending university there. Partners in marriage or common-law relationships can apply for a study and work visa to take advantage of Canada’s thriving employment market. Professionals from other countries who meet the requirements can file for a work permit in Canada to support their spouse or companion while they complete their education.

Standards for Eligibility

In order to apply for this visa, both spouses must be Canadian residents. The companion who wants to go to school must be in possession of both a study pass and full-time enrollment approval at an accredited university. The companion or partner must have a legitimate work visa in a NOC 0, A, or B profession for at least six months. One of the greatest parts is that an employment contract is not required to register. An candidate can acquire job experience in Canada while integrating into life in the nation and, later, file for permanent citizenship if they choose to work or study in Canada.

Completion of Postsecondary Education

After completing your studies at a Canadian institution or college, you may apply to prolong your stay in the country. Typically, this will be available for a time frame of 8 months to 3 years.

If you are a foreign student and you want to bring your husband or companion to Canada, they may be able to get an open work visa that will enable them to work full-time anywhere in Canada while you are a student.

A non-position-specific work permit is also known as a “open” work permit. Your husband or common-law partner will be free to work for any company. An open work permit issued to your husband or companion typically coincides in duration with your own study permit. Your companion or common-law partner may require medical attention in certain circumstances.

Who Qualifies?

Full-time foreign students in possession of a legitimate study permit can sponsor their husband or common-law companion for an open employment visa. Your companion can register for a pass at the same time you do for your student visa, and they won’t need a work contract to do it.
